HARC’s Paul Mullen has been named in the starting 15 for the USA U-20 as they face the Irish Exiles in a warm-up prior to the Junior World Cup in the Republic of Georgia. Also, former Dallas Jesuit standout Dan Metcalf has been named as a starter at lock. Texas A&M’s Conor Mills has been named to the bench for the USA.
Conor’s latest diary entry about the trip is further down in this post.
The Exiles are the fifth Irish Provience and are funded by the Irish Rugby Football Union. They draw their player base from Irish qualified players living in the UK. The Exiles have produced some 20 full Irish Internationals, including Simon Easterby and Rob Henderson both. Recent USA scrumhalf Robbie Shaw played for the Exiles at the U18 and *21 level. The squad for tomorrow evening includes some three of this year’s Ireland U18 team, and two Ireland U19 Internationals.

Here is Conor’s latest diary entry:
Day three is down and now the fatigue is setting in. Had two two and a half hour long sessions today where we went over everything from phase play to contact scrimmaging. My body is starting to get a little sore but it feels good to know I am getting a little better every practice. Tomorrow is our one- off exhibition game against the Irish Exiles U20 team. From what I have heard they have about 5 guys who have played for the Ireland age grade program so it will be tough. The coaches have said that they will be looking at different combinations tomorrow so hopefully I can get a good run in at 10. Other than that we are starting to take the foot off the pedal a little bit and focus on recovery. Me and Paul’s hosts have been great to us so far and we are sad to leave our own beds tomorrow… Anyways I think I am going to go to sleep and get some rest for tomorrow, goodnight!
